About The Event
It is 1660. The Puritans have run away with their drab grey tails between their legs. King Charles II has exploded on to the scene with a love of all things loud, French and sexy. At Drury Lane, a young Nell Gwynn is selling oranges for sixpence. Little does she know who's watching...
How on earth does a King meet someone from the sleezy streets of London, you may well ask? Well…obviously, he goes to the best place to spot talent… the theatre!
A boisterous comedy charting the rise of theatre’s greatest rebel, a woman making her way through a man’s world with joyful cheek and charm. Ambitious mistresses, stroppy Queens… in all senses of the word…oh dear, is that expression acceptable these days? Anyway, this play has the lot!
